Who We Are

We are a group of board gaming enthusiasts. When the group started, we met in person in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Although we still meet in person, we also meet on-line (currently over Zoom) with members from all over the world, every Friday evening at 6pm (Eastern Time).

Our Groups

We organize our online and in-person games in two different places:

  • Online games (Fridays at 6pm Eastern): our Virtual Board Games group on OpenMeet is where we schedule our weekly Zoom + BoardGameArena game nights. Join there to RSVP for online events.
  • In-person games (Pittsburgh, PA): our group on meetup.com is where we schedule in-person game meetups in the Pittsburgh area.

About Our Name

The premier site for finding out about board games themselves is boardgamegeek.com. Since we are people (rather than games) and we wanted people to be able to easily remember how to find us, we called our meetup boardgaminggeeks.org.

About Online Gaming

Most of the games we play are available on BoardGameArena, which has more than 1000 different games available, and over 10 million registered players. That means that in order to join our online games, you will need to create an account on boardgamearena.com (which we will ask you to tell us when you join our OpenMeet group).

We also sometimes play games that have their own sites, such as:

While membership is open to everyone, we try to create an experience while playing on-line that is as similar as possible to playing in person. Currently, we use Zoom to run our on-line meetings, so everyone can see and talk to each other in real time in one window, while they are playing the (on-line) board game in another window. When groups of people play a game together, they go to a shared breakout room in Zoom, and then come back to the main room when they finish the game.
